Hopkinsville Man Charged With Possessing Opiates

Police say a traffic stop on a vehicle with a license plate displayed improperly led to a drug arrest in Hopkinsville early Thursday morning. Shortly after 1:00am, Hopkinsville Police report 20-year old Isaiah Lawson was seen by officers pulling out of the Pennyrile Parkway onto Pembroke Road with no license plate visible. Upon contact, police reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle.

During a search, police reportedly found a plastic bag under the driver's seat with what appeared to be marijuana and a small plastic baggie containing pills that were determined to be Schedule II narcotics and an opioid.

Lawson was lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with Possession of Marijuana, 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance – Opiates.
