Hanson Man Charged With Marijuana Trafficking

A 22-year old Hopkins County man is facing drug trafficking charges and other offenses after police reportedly found pot and guns inside his vehicle on New Year's Day. Madisonville Police officers responded to the 800 block of Raintree Drive around 3:00 Monday afternoon after receiving a call about a subject in a silver four door vehicle possibly selling drugs from the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle parked in the driveway of a Raintree Drive residence and Joseph Martin, of Hanson, sitting in the driver's seat. Upon contact with Martin, police say he exited the vehicle and the officer saw a small bag of suspected marijuana on the center console of the vehicle. Martin was then detained for the drug violation.

During a search of the vehicle, police reportedly found a Ruger 9 mm handgun with a loaded magazine under the driver's seat, with an extended magazine lying on the back seat, a marijuana joint in the ashtray, a small bag of marijuana lying on the center console, a backpack with two Mason jars filled with suspected marijuana, seven empty Mason jars with traces of marijuana, two boxes of plastic bags, digital scales, $1,761 in cash and an AR-15 in the vehicle's trunk. Police believe the total amount of marijuana was under eight ounces.

Martin was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center charged with Trafficking Marijuana Less Than 8 Ounces – Firearm Enhanced and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
